by

In today’s world there is such a huge wealth of career options, but finding the time and motivation to really see what’s out there can be difficult, to say the least.

But taking note of key blogs (aside from this lovely one you are reading right now) and online spaces where you can get quality career advice, industry insight, and keep up to date with what’s happening in your field is super important. Not only does it help you stay connected and open pathways for potential networking opportunities, but can also help you see what’s out there!

So – are you ready to be inspired to kick-start your career in 2018?

Smart Company

This is a news website, whose content focuses around entrepreneurs and businesses, and provide great insight into the types of startup opportunities are out there. From detailed profiles on up-and-coming startups that may inspire you to jump in yourself, to business insights and tips, Smart Company is a good place to be if you’re thinking of branching out on your own. (Plus, it’s Australian, so the advice and inspiration you’re getting is a lot more likely to be applicable to your circumstances).

Business Chicks

Aimed at business women, Business Chicks’ blog cover a range of topics to help you get the most out of your career (and sometimes feel a little less alone when things are getting tough!). A lot of the content is millennial-relevant and looks at social media, or being a successful ‘Business Chick’ in this cut-throat business world.

The Muse

The Muse is basically your one-stop-shop for all things careers: detailed career pathway advice, industry breakdowns, opinion pieces, and general career advice. It’s got a tonne of articles on it, and can help you break down the types of jobs you’d be suited to, or explore just what some jobs actually entail.

LinkedIn Influencers

As far as online space go, LinkedIn should really be your go to for engaging with your industry in an online space, as far as professional branding is concerned. LinkedIn also has ‘influencers’: people who post regularly and provide great insight into specific field, or particular topics. When you follow an influencer on LinkedIn, their posts will help populate your feed, making it more likely for you to stumble across an interesting article or insightful piece of advice.

Aside from this, following people in your industry is also super helpful, as it can make LinkedIn an easy way for you to see what’s trending in your field (and look ridiculously intelligent at your next fancy dinner party with your flat mate and his cat).

Virgin: Entrepreneur

The Entrepreneur page of the Virgin website has some great articles and cross-industry insights. Not only are there some great posts dealing with mindfulness and the work-life balance, but also content that encourages you to think outside of the box when it comes to career progress – all good things when you’re trying to decide what you want to do.
