Great, high-paying jobs for recent graduates
As you prepare to graduate from uni, you probably have a lot of debt from HECS or student loans. You do not have to let this debt weigh you down financially, however.
Instead, while chipping away at your HECS, you could research a possible student loan refinance. You should then look for a career in a well-paying industry. It is possible to earn a lot of money right out of uni, even if you do not have much experience. Here are some great entry-level jobs to consider after graduation.
Salesperson
Sales jobs have a bad reputation, but they provide invaluable experience. If you take a sales job, you will learn how to be resilient and deal with failure. After all, not all of your calls or leads will end in a sale. You will also develop your persuasion skills while learning how to listen and how to talk to strangers.
Sales jobs can also earn you a ton of money, particularly through bonuses or commissions. Some salespeople earn billions of dollars a year, even without degrees in business or related fields.
If you want to earn six figures right away, you should look for jobs selling to businesses rather than individuals. After all, business deals are usually a lot larger than consumer sales are. A typical business salesperson earns between $55,000 and $95,000 in salary on top of their commissions. Avoid companies that only offer commission with no base salary, as jobs with those organisations may be scams.
Software Engineer or Developer
If you have computer skills, you can earn money right away as a software engineer. There are plenty of jobs available in this field, as more and more businesses are relying on software. In particular, technology companies such as Google and Microsoft hire lots of graduates each year. Many of these businesses pay high salaries, as well. You could earn around $90,000 in your first year and move up to six figures after two or three years in the field.
There are plenty of other benefits, too. You may be able to telecommute or work flexible hours. There are also opportunities for growth to senior-level positions. Keep in mind that you will have to keep up with the latest software technology in order to maintain a developer job.
Registered Nurse
Nursing is another field expected to boom in coming years. As the Baby Boomer population ages, they will need nurses to care for them in hospitals and at home. If you are willing to work long hours, you could find work right away at a local hospital. Traveling nurses also earn a great deal of money while getting to see different parts of the country. If you require a more regular schedule, you could also get a nursing job at a school or family medicine office.
Nursing is a rewarding career both financially and emotionally, as you will get to help save the lives of individuals. Your exact earnings will vary depending on your specialisation and level of schooling. However, you could earn around $60,000 in an entry-level position.
Engineer
Engineers of all types can earn a lot of money right out of college. However, for most of these jobs, you will need a relevant degree.
Engineers serve a variety of functions. An aerospace engineer, for instance, develops and tests spacecraft. Meanwhile, an industrial engineer aims to eliminate wastefulness and maximise productivity in various processes. No matter what type of engineering job you get after graduation, you could earn a starting salary of more than $90,000 a year.
Internet Marketer
As companies start pivoting to primarily online sales, they will need people to market products and services. If you are creative and understand search engine optimisation, you could earn a lot of money as a digital marketer. Businesses need both social media specialists and online advertisement creators.
Even if you are fresh out of university with minimal experience, you can still find a high-paying job with potential for growth. You just have to pick the right field.
