Some 2017 Career-Inspo

It’s now officially January 2017, and life can go on again. Did you survive your New Year’s Eve? Are your ready to get stuck back in to thinking about your career? Alright, after 2016 it’s understandable if you feel a little worse for wear. Chances are, the thought of planning for your career right now seems like an insurmountable task full of pain, suffering, anxiety… okay that might be a bit melodramatic, but making solid career plans can be really hard, particularly around the holiday season. So to help you start thinking about your future, here’s a little list of career-inspo to get you back into the swing of things!

Podcasts

Podcasts are a great resource for learning, sourcing entertaining content, and getting inspired. Two podcasts that are pretty great on the career-inspo side of things, are Ctrl Alt Delete and How Did You Get Into That? In both, the host interviews a range of really interesting people from all walks of life, who have made a name for themselves in one way or another.

Ctrl Alt Delete mainly focuses on people working in the online world, or whose careers have been impacted by the internet and social media in some way. The podcast has had guests such as Elizabeth Gilbert, Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella), and Meik Wiking (to name a few). If you’re looking to get into the online space, work in a creative industry, or create your own startup then this may be the podcast for you.

How Did You Get Into That? features guests who have really interesting careers – from founders of startup companies, to people who have changed careers, it gives a great insight into how people go about landing their dream job and achieving their goals. Regardless of where you’re at in your career journey, this podcast is an easy way to get you thinking about your own aspirations.

Blogs and Websites

There are sooo many amazing blogs and websites out there that it can be hard to find the one or two that really work for you. A great way to find career content is to go onto blog sites like Bloglovin’, and simply search ‘career’ to see what comes up. A lot of blogs write career-related articles, but it might not be their main source of content.

To give you a bit of help, here’s a short list of blogs and websites that produce pretty interesting careers content, so you can get excited about getting stuck into some career development in 2017!

Themuse.com

The Muse is a veritable hub of career advice. With content from a range of different writers, their articles are often written with a pretty conversational voice, which makes learning about some of the drier career topics a lot more interesting.

The Footnotes is a blog aimed at young women looking to get stuck into their careers. With interviews, advice, and special interest stories, this site’s got your career-inspo needs covered.

Penelopetrunk.com

Penelope is a startup founder, and pretty avid blogger. She writes about a whole range of things, but she does have some pretty interesting career articles on her site.

Huffington Post and Forbes

Both of these websites offer a range of content, including some pretty interesting careers-related stuff. From how different industries are developing, new ways of apply for jobs, or different career trends – it’s always interesting to have a quick flick through their articles when you’re deciding on your next career move.

Facebook pages

Every now and then you come across a great article on your news feed that can totally change the way you see things. For careers content, the Business Insider and the Collective Hub Facebook pages are great ones to follow.

Business Insider is good for giving you little titbits of information, short videos, and a few longer articles. The Collective Hub is a magazine, and their Facebook page often links articles on how to get the most out of life, great interviews with successful professionals, and tips for staying at the top of your game. Both pages produce content that doesn’t take a lot of time to consume, but still can really help you stay in the career-loop.
